On Sunday, September 11, we celebrated our summer and September birthdays! Our best wishes to all who celebrated so far! Join us for the next birthday celebration on Sunday, October 2nd, when we celebrate October birthdays!
Father Tony's first Catholicism 101 of the year was held on Sunday, September 11. Our topic for the evening was the Mass: Full Conscious and Active Participation. Father Tony shared how we are not called to be observers of the Mass, but participants, sharers in the Mystery of the Mass.
Catholicism 101 is an opportunity for our college students to ask the burning questions on their hearts. Sometimes, our conversations focus on the Sacraments, other times it is about Church teaching. Occasionally, it is about the saints. It is always a sincere conversation, hearing the students' questions and concerns, and answering them in the light of our Faith.
Join us on Sunday, October 2nd, as Father Tony leads us in a conversation about "Sola Scriptura" entitled: Only Revelation. Supper is provided!

For Family Weekend, we celebrated our first Saturday night game night of the year. It is good to have the students back in the building, laughing, playing, building community and having a great time with each other! This month, Apples to Apples was the go to game. We hope you join us Saturday evening, October 1, to see what the next winning game will be!

On Saturday, September 10, 2022, SMSU celebrated Family Weekend 2022. Catholic Campus Ministries and Lutheran Campus Ministries hosted a "Dessert First" event at the Campus Religious Center. We welcomed a variety of families to Campus with delicious homemade goodies. It is always good to see families gathering to celebrate the transition to college with the students we serve!
Our regular schedule of Newman activities is up and running for the school year. We had our first First Tuesday Trivia night. Supper was served first, followed by Kahoot! trivia to get us ready for Father Tony's first Catholicism 101: Full Conscious and Active. We had a number of spirited competitors in the room! We look forward to you joining us next October 4 for Trivia Night!
On Labor Day, a small, but mighty, group headed to Lake Shetek for hiking, followed by a grill-out. Lake Shetek is a State Park about an hour south of Marshall. Shetek is a Native American word for Pelican. Our hikers were able to make the trip around Loon Island before enjoying burgers and sides. Join us next time!
